Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.. (NYSE: WMT) is a United States company that operates a network of department stores. According to the Fortune Global 500 2008, Wal-Mart is the largest public company in the world based on revenue. Founded by Sam Walton in 1962, Wal-Mart began listing its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972.

Wal-Mart operates in Argentina, Brazil, United Kingdom (under the name ASDA), Japan (Seiyu name), Canada, Mexico (by name Walmex), Puerto Rico, and the PRC. Wal-Mart has operated in Germany, but finally closed in 2006 due to a loss. In addition, Wal-Mart has opened stores in Indonesia (in Supermal Karawaci) in the mid-1990s but was closed due to less profitable.

Wal-Mart has been criticized by some community groups, female rights groups and trades unions, especially about the many products that disumber from abroad, the low level of employee health insurance enrollment, resistance to representatives of labor, as well as allegations of sex discrimination.
